As those of us in South Florida were spared from the devastation of Hurricane Dorian over the past few days, those in the Bahamas were not as fortunate. Hours and hours of sustained Category 4 & 5 hurricane winds brought destruction and devastation to most of the island. It is in times like these that we truly remember that part of our responsibility as a church to our community is to aid where we are able. Many in South Florida are connected to the Bahamas through friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors. Therefore, it is our desire to assist however we may. There are two primary opportunities for you to help through New Springs:

  1. Giving Financially - Mission to the World (MTW), the international mission of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), has missionaries and churches directly affected in Nassau and Abaco. You can give financially to the disaster relief fund to assist these churches in caring for their communities by clicking here.

  2. Give Supplies - You can drop off supplies at Lady and the Mug, 3111 N University Dr Suite 111, Coral Springs, FL 33065 during business hours. See below for a guide as to what to bring:

JOIN US FOR PRAYER

As Hurricane Dorian approaches, we are prepared to gather together as a church to pray for our community, our city, our nation, and everywhere else potentially affected by the impending storm. Join us tomorrow morning (Saturday) from 7am to 8am at Vito’s Pizza in Coral Springs to pray for our great God to watch over us all.

Here is a guide to how we will pray (borrowed from South Carolina Baptist Convention):

  1. Pray that those affected by the storm would know the assurance of God’s love, provisions, and his protection

    • Zephaniah 3:17 “The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”

    • Isaiah 41:13 “For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, ‘Fear not, I am the one who helps you.’ ”

    • Isaiah 35:4 “Tell everyone who is discouraged, be strong and don’t be afraid! God is coming to your rescue!”

    • 1 Chronicles 16:11 “Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always.”

  2. Pray that those affected will have strength and endurance to rebuild any potentially broken physical and/or emotional places in their lives.

    • Psalm 22:19 “But you, LORD, do not be far from me. You are my strength; come quickly to help me.”

    • Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

    • Isaiah 40:31 “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

    • Psalm 102:17 “He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea.”

  3. Pray for first Responders and volunteer teams — Generosity of time, provisions and care.

    • Philippians 1:3 “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you..”

    • Colossians 1:11 “May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy.”

    • 2 Corinthians 5:20 “So we are ambassadors for Christ, God making His appeal through us.”

  4. Pray for places for families to live (those who need to evacuate and find safer living spaces). For children, the elderly, and vulnerable to receive compassion, gentleness, and will heed evacuation warnings.

    • Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge hime, and he will make straight your paths.”

    • 2 Kings 20:5 “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will heal you.”

    • Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and of good courage, be not frightened, neither be dismayed; for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

    • Psalm 56:3 “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”

  5. Pray for all leaders and decision-makers to have wisdom and exercise it.

    • James 3:17 “But the wisdom that comes from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits without uncertainly or insincerity.”

    • Psalm 25:4 “Make me know thy ways, O Lord.”

    • Proverbs 19:20 “Listen to advice and accept instruction that you may gain wisdom for the future.”

  6. Pray for all to have spiritual fruit bearing and hope in Jesus.

    • Hebrews 10:23 “ Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”

    • Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

    • Romans 10:1 “ Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved.”

Hurricane Dorian Update #2

As we continue to monitor the status of Hurricane Dorian and how it may affect South Florida we have decided it is best to cancel this Sunday’s worship service. If you, or anyone you know (family, neighbors etc.) need help in preparing, please let us know via email or direct message. We will likely have people who would love to come help in anyway we can and the same holds true after the storm should it hit us. Be praying for those who this will impact – our state, our nation, the Caribbean, first responders, neighbors, elderly, kids, etc. Whether or not the storm hits us it is hitting somewhere, and they could use our prayers. Be praying for workers at hardware and department stores, gas stations, and wholesale retailers as they are already starting to be overrun with people looking to prepare. Please, let us know any ways we can serve you, pray for you or help you in any way.

We wanted to let you know that we are following the development of Dorian as it moves toward Florida. We will communicate updates regarding the church with you via email, social media and text messages.

A few things to note:

  1. We are monitoring whether or not we will have service on Sunday and will make a final decision as soon as possible, likely by Friday afternoon. If it is unsafe, people are working to get their homes ready, officials recommend not going out, etc. we will not gather together this Sunday. In any case, we are NOT going to have the Leader Gathering this Sunday after worship.

Conformed

“For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his son”

Romans 8:29

This Men's group has taken shape out of a prayer and desire of mine that God would replicate a group I was able to participate in almost 15 years ago.  15 years ago within a men’s group at my house, I watched young men following Christ conform to Christ in likeness and mission, including myself.  We men matured, experienced genuine community, and followed our Lord in our respective callings and missions as disciples of Jesus Christ.  That group, that time 15 years ago, God began a work that would multiply and expand, so much so that New Springs Church is now a part of that groups story and ministry.

I now dream and hope to see Christ do the same, by leading more men, husbands, fathers, future pastors, church planters, business owners, community leaders, firefighters, chaplains, into his mission and expanding kingdom by “conforming us to Christ in likeness and mission”. Alpha

Alpha17-18_FacebookBanner_Europe.png

Beginning Wednesday evening, June 6 at 7:30pm we will be hosting the Alpha series at He-Brews Coffee in Coral Springs!

What is Alpha?

The premise behind Alpha is that we simply want to create a safe and respectful environment where people have the freedom to discuss life and faith. We will share a (free) meal together, watch a 20-30 min video about some of the basic aspects of the Christian faith, and then we will gather together and share our thoughts. It isn't a time to judge or argue, rather we simply want to create a space where meaningful conversation can happen.

Why Alpha?

As each day passes we engage in several conversations. We talk with our family, our friends, our co-workers, our neighbors, and the ambitious even venture out sometimes to talk to strangers. However, the vast majority of our conversations are surface level:

"Great weather today, Bob."

"Did you see LeBron last night?"

"Hey buddy, how are the kids?"

We rarely discuss the deeper things of life like, "Is there more to life than this?" or "How can I make the most of the rest of my life?" While we often think about such questions, we rarely feel brave enough to discuss them with anyone. Traditionally, discussions about religion or politics have been taboo. However, we want you to be able to talk about these things freely and respectfully and we hope that through these discussions you are able to make real connections with people.

Where?

He-Brews Coffee, 921 N University Drive, Coral Springs, FL

When?

Every Wednesday night at 7:30pm beginning on June 6.

How?

If you would like to join us simply invite a friend and come on by on June 6. No need to pre-register, sign up, submit any info, or pay any money. Just come! If you have some specific questions, you can shoot me an email at gfelix@spanishriver.com and I would be glad to help you out. We hope to see you and your friends there!

New Beginnings...

First off, I want to thank you for taking interest in how God is working in our lives and in Coral Springs/Parkland. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the support and encouragement we have received in the few months we have been preparing to launch a new congregation in our city.

I am a church planting resident at Spanish River Church (Boca Raton, FL) and have been for a little over nine months now. The way my residency works is I primarily work for Spanish River through my first year and then spend the second year making connections and raising support in preparation for launching services in late 2019. My responsibilities now include things like preaching, teaching various Christian education courses, leading a few outreach ministries, continuing my education through Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS-Orlando), and receiving training specific to a church planter. Here is a timeline of what I have been up to during my time at Spanish River thus far and how we hope to progress in the months to come:
